Almazov Center successfully applies voice data entry technologies

Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Center named after V. A. Almazov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (Almazov Center) has begun the successful use of voice data entry technologies in describing radiology studies. This became possible thanks to the Voice2Med product, developed by the MDG group of companies. This was reported to CNews by representatives of the MDGs.

At the moment, the use of this technology shows decent results, in the form of a reduction in the time for describing studies by up to 30%. Undoubtedly, not only the doctor’s time is saved, but the quality of the entered data is also improved. The next stage, which is already at the stage of completion, is the integration of the Voice2Med product with the Medical Information System (HIS) qMS, as a result of which the principle of “one window” is implemented in the work of a doctor only through HIS without the use of third-party applications. Now the stage of testing and setting up the functionality, preparation for implementation, including in the functional diagnostics department, is underway. It is planned to further develop technologies for voice data entry into the MIS in other areas of medical activity at the clinic of the Almazov Center.

Voice2Med is an artificial intelligence-based product that allows a doctor to fill out medical documents in real time using his voice. When examining patients or conducting a laboratory test, a doctor, using a headset, dictates information that is instantly decoded and automatically transferred to an open protocol of a medical information system. Voice2Med correctly recognizes all medical terms, abbreviations and abbreviations. The ability to connect thematic language models ensures that at the end of the examination or study, a fully completed medical document that requires a minimum of corrections. The solution allows you to fix the details with your voice, without being distracted from the examination, to devote more time to the patient, rather than the routine.

“It is natural for a person to transmit information by voice – this is physiological, habitual and convenient. Voice input can significantly optimize the working time of medical professionals, improve the quality of medical history taking and reduce labor costs. All these positive effects lead to an improvement in the quality of medical care and reduce the burden on doctors. Already at the start of the project, we fix that voice input of data into the medical information system, using the example of a description of studies on radiation diagnostics, saves from 20% to 30% of the time of radiologists,” said Dmitry Kurapeev, Deputy General Director for Information Technology and Project Management, N.N. V. A. Almazov» of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

Dmitry Dyrmovsky, CEO of the MDG group of companies: “The Russian language is not analytical, like English, but synthetic – various forms of declension and conjugation of words are combined into one word form, so the development of voice input of medical protocols in Russian was a serious technological challenge. Today this task has been solved – the quality of Russian speech recognition in the Voice2Med product reaches 97-98%, it does not contain borrowed components, the product is included in the register of Russian software. The appearance of such a product has formed a large-scale trend of voice input for the digitalization of medicine. The implementation of Voice2Med is scaling across the country, and we welcome its use in the Almazov Center, where the product demonstrates high efficiency already at the start of the project.”

At the beginning of June 2022, the MDG group announced that the capabilities of Voice2Med have been significantly expanded – a new list of medical terms has been added to the existing dictionaries of a general practitioner and pediatrician, CT radiologist, MRI, pathologist, ultrasound doctor and endoscopist, cardiologist and surgeon – dentist’s dictionary. In addition, STC created a mobile workplace for a doctor – they made it possible to use voice input using a tablet, which is convenient when an office with a desktop computer is not available. Mobile workplaces can be in demand by ambulance specialists, pathologists. forensic experts, doctors on rounds. The stationary version of Voice2Med operates in 80 medical institutions in Moscow, in 65 regions of Russia and continues to scale.
