The very number of frames creates a kind of “illusion” of movement, because the eyes cannot distinguish individual images (ie frames) that follow each other very quickly. The eyes can reliably detect a maximum of 16 fps, if this value is higher, we can already see the image continuously.

He needs a lot of games to the smoothest gameplay the highest framerate possible. Most games have a maximum of 30 FPS for more demanding action games, the smoothness of playing is guaranteed by a maximum value of 60 FPS, other games, on the other hand, have no limit, and have a short-term framerate of over 90 FPS. If you want to compare game performance on Android, or find out why the game is currently choppy, you need to know the current FPS value. And while some games allow you to view this information in your settings, others hide it anxiously. So how do you view your current framerate on Android?

Samsung has it the easiest

Android smartphones can be divided into Samsung and others. If you have a Galaxy device in your hands, the situation is quite simple. Just go to Settings About the phone Software information. After activation you have won. From now on, you will see all the mentioned data on any screen on the display (ie also in the menu or in the running application). We were able to verify the displayed value for the game Titan Quest, which has its own “meter” FPS. The deviation of the measured framer between GPUWatch and the values ​​given by the game itself was minimal.

However, both may have slightly different measurement methodologies. While we can’t see the “meter” at Titan Quest, the system tool from Samsung always shows the average framerate for the last 120 ms. If you no longer want to view framerate information, just deactivate GPUWatch in the developer menu. This is useful whenever you do not want to measure FPS, because you can see in the system that the long-term display of graphs and current values ​​puts a considerable amount of computational strain on the phone.

Don’t have Samsung? The journey will be more complicated …

If you don’t use a Galaxy phone, you’re sure to look for various “FPS apps” on Google Play, which are packed with on this app portal. And hand on heart, almost every application just shows you ads and framerate, that is, either fixed at 30 or 60 FPS? or indicates the refresh rate of the display, which is completely different information than you need to know when playing games. However, starting the measurement is significantly more difficult than with Samsung.

After downloading the 155MB installer and installing the PerfDog application, you need to create a new account, to which you will receive a free 30 minutes for the PerfDog application. Another 50 will be added after adding your phone number and verifying it. It is also necessary to call via Settings Development options activate USB Debug mode. Third, you need to install ADB (Android Debug Bridge) on your computer, at least in a minimal form, which you can download here. You will then need to connect your phone to the computer and confirm the tuning mode on the display. PerfDog works even with iPhones, only there is a slightly different process of connecting your phone and Windows / Mac applications.

However, we only need a lot of information about the framerat, which you can read at any time from the upper left corner of the phone. Of course, you must first enable the application to redraw through other applications.
