The Chinese authorities said they had nothing to do with the closure of Huawei stores in Russia. This process began in the last days of February 2022. The responsibility for this may lie with the top managers of the company itself. Huawei has not announced support for anti-Russian sanctions, but at the same time it is closing stores, reducing imports, ending cooperation with telecom operators and is unwilling to respond to their requests.
No state responsibility
The Chinese authorities commented on the sudden closure of the Huawei store network throughout Russia, RIA Novosti reports. The main idea of the Chinese state’s response is to absolve itself of any responsibility for this.
As the official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China Shu Jueting (Shu Jueting), the Chinese authorities, for their part, support the commercial activities of Chinese companies in Russia. “China has always been committed to the development of mutually beneficial Russian-Chinese economic and trade cooperation, and supports the business activities of Chinese companies in Russia in accordance with market principles,” said Shu Jiueting.
It follows from this that the PRC leadership in no way affects the operation of the Huawei store chain in Russia. Thus, the decision to reduce its presence in Russia could be taken by the direct management of the company.
The leadership of China is not connected with the actions of Huawei in Russia
Meanwhile, in the statement of the representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China, there was not a word about other actions of this corporation directed against Russia and Russians.
What is wrong with Huawei stores in Russia
The Russian network of Huawei stores for February 23, 2022 consisted of 19 points of sale across the country. Just four days after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the company closed one of these stores. In the following months, the same fate befell three more salons.
At the time of publication of the material in Russia, there were 15 Huawei sales points, according to the official website of the company. The probability of their closure is very high, as the company has not yet made any statements regarding them.
An unnamed RBC source said that the reason for the closure of stores lies in the lack of equipment in warehouses, as well as in the decline in demand for smartphones in Russia. Huawei mobiles have indeed become much less interesting for users not only in Russia, but throughout the world due to the lack of Google services on them. Huaweithe right to install them on their smartphones in the spring of 2019.
In the near future, Russia may be left without a single Huawei store
As a result, by the end of 2021, Huawei along with Honor, which was alienated from it in the fall of 2020, shared only 3% of the Russian smartphone market (GS Group statistics). The main sales came from Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple and Realme smartphones. At the same time, in the fourth quarter of 2020, Huawei was in the top three.
Huawei offers not only Android smartphones and tablets, but also smart TVs and laptops. In addition, she is actively developing her own mobile platform Harmony OS, including versions for smartphones, but the Russians did not have access to it as of June 16, 2022.
Facial biometrics in Russia expects rapid growth
In the spring of 2022, Huawei halved the supply of its equipment to Russia, without really explaining the reasons. In addition, the company was caught deleting applications of Russian banks that fell under Western sanctions.
It should be noted that Huawei, unlike many other foreign companies, does not declare support for anti-Russian sanctions. Nevertheless, everything points to this – it even stopped supplying network equipment to Russian telecom operators. Attempts by operators to obtain information from it about the supply of hardware turn into a failure – the company, as Kommersant reported at the end of May 2022, does not respond to their requests.
