Fix Price, a chain of stores with low fixed prices, has equipped 250 new stores throughout Russia with self-service checkouts for six months, installing a total of 500 automated checkouts. The share of checks that passed through self-service checkouts demonstrates a consistent growth, which indicates an interest in self-payment for purchases: for example, in May, self-checkouts accounted for 12% of all checks, while in June it was already 16%. This was reported to CNews by representatives of Fix Price.
In addition to stores in Moscow and the Moscow Region, where a total of 72 self-service checkouts were installed, Fix Price points in the Republic of Bashkortostan (26 self-service checkouts), Krasnodar Territory and Nizhny Novgorod Region (24 each), St. Petersburg are among the leaders in terms of equipping with new equipment. (22), Chelyabinsk region (20) and the Republic of Tatarstan (18).
The Fix Price chain has decided to place two self-service checkouts and two traditional checkouts in all newly opened outlets in January 2022. The program is valid for the chain’s own stores opening in Russia.
Oleg Leksin, Head of IT at Fix Price: “We are pleased with the pace at which self-checkouts are being installed and that they are growing in popularity. Automated checkouts help increase store traffic and free up cashiers’ time to work in the hall. The self-checkout equipment installed at Fix Price is produced in Russia mainly from Chinese components, so we do not observe interruptions in supplies due to macroeconomic difficulties. We plan to continue implementing the program to equip new stores in Russia with self-service checkouts – in 2022 we plan to install about 1,200 such checkouts.”
