Gazpromneft-Yamal introduces an automatic system to improve safety at the drilling site

At the Novoportovskoye field, Gazpromneft-Yamal tested an innovative system for monitoring compliance with safety regulations during the operation of a drilling rig. This was reported to CNews by representatives of NVI Solutions.

The software and hardware complex with artificial intelligence collects and analyzes data from video cameras and sensors installed on the drilling rig, which allows timely detection of violations of industrial safety rules and prompt response in real time. For example, if an employee does not have a permit or he starts work without personal protective equipment, a notification through a loudspeaker follows.

In addition, all violations are automatically recorded in an electronic log, and the accumulated statistics make it possible to identify areas for further improving the level of production safety.

During testing, the new system confirmed the ability to automatically detect any violations around the clock. The possibility of using the new technology not only on drilling rigs, but also on other production facilities is being considered. The digital platform was developed by the Russian manufacturer NVI Solutions.

Alexey Ovechkin, Director General of Gazpromneft-Yamal: “Timely detection of violations is the key to safe operation. Despite the fact that the drilling rigs are equipped with video surveillance cameras, individual violations may go unnoticed if the monitoring is carried out by a person. Digital control avoids errors and guarantees maximum results. In addition, in automatic mode, the violation is not only recorded, but also archived. Consequently, we are getting more data for analysis, allowing us to take preventive measures to reduce production risks.”

Safe remote work for CII: how to organize and develop

Philip Belyaev, CEO of NVI Solutions: “On oil production sites, personnel regularly encounter potentially dangerous situations, so minimizing risks is a must for operational efficiency. Industrial video analytics systems are increasingly in demand by companies and contractors that place high demands on labor protection. And thanks to the introduction of the latest technologies, Gazprom Neft is one of the leaders in the application of international standards for safe work in production.”

Gazpromneft-Yamal is the operator of the Novoportovskoye field, a key project of Gazprom Neft and one of the largest oil and gas condensate fields on the Yamal Peninsula. Recoverable reserves of categories C1 and C2 amount to more than 250 million tons of oil and condensate, as well as more than 320 billion cubic meters of gas. The field produced 15.88 mmtoe in 2021, up 2.4% from a year earlier. The project is a unique example of the development of oil reserves in the Arctic and is a testing ground for innovative drilling and production technologies.
