Your home Wi-Fi network should be a renowned safe haven for your devices and data. At the same time, many users are satisfied that the network is working and do not prefer to interfere with it. We know that some of the following measures are more time consuming or cost money, but a much safer network is worth it.
1. Change of login details
We are still witnessing an unsightly practice where a local internet provider will also offer a Wi-Fi router, but without access to the administration “so that users do not mess something up”. These are often age-old devices with a single-stream 802.11n Wi-Fi standard, with outdated firmware full of bugs and known vulnerabilities, with a default Wi-Fi name and password that has not been changed for years. If this is the case for you, request a new, modern facility with open access to the administration.
When you have a Wi-Fi router in your management, you have won. A very important first step is to change the login details, especially changing the standard admin user to anything else. A secure password is a matter of course.
