The Ministry of Digital Development proposes to introduce criminal liability for entering false information into the public services portal or into a single biometric system. Officials for this can face up to 10 years in prison. In addition to prison, violators may be fined up to 500 thousand rubles. It is proposed to conduct investigations in such cases, including by the FSB.

Deadline for false information

The Ministry of Digital Development proposed to introduce criminal liability for entering false information about Russians into the portal of public services and into the unified biometric system (UBS). The proposal is contained in the draft federal law developed by the ministry and published on the portal of draft normative legal acts.

The measure applies only to officials, as well as persons authorized to post and update information on public services or the EBS. For deliberately entering false information or failure to fulfill the obligation to post or update it for personal gain, it may be punished by imprisonment for up to ten years. But only if such actions entailed serious consequences.

In other cases, it is proposed to introduce a term of up to five years in prison or forced labor. If illegal actions are committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, then such an act, if the bill is passed, will be punished for up to six years.

According to the explanatory note to the draft, preliminary investigation of such crimes can be carried out by investigators of the federal security service (FSB).

But you can get off with a fine

In addition to imprisonment, the Ministry of Digital Development proposes to fine violators. The maximum fine for posting false information on the public services portal may be 500,000 rubles. This may threaten a group of persons who have committed an act by prior agreement.

A misdemeanor may also be punished by compulsory labor up to 480 hours or correctional labor up to two years. Violators may also be subject to disqualification

In addition to criminal liability for false information, the Ministry of Digital Development proposes to punish with fines from 100 thousand to 1 million rubles. for violation of the procedure for processing biometric data, including their collection and storage. Izvestia writes about it.

If an organization without accreditation is allowed to process biometric data of individuals in the financial sector or government agencies, then officials are proposed to be fined up to 600 thousand rubles, and legal entities – up to 1 million rubles.

The Mintsifra explained to the publication that the bill could be submitted to the State Duma in the autumn session of this year.
