MegaFon and the government of the Novosibirsk region agreed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on the development of the region’s telecom infrastructure. MegaFon will provide LTE coverage in the ice sports arena under construction on the left bank of the Ob River, the new international terminal of Tolmachevo Airport, and will also upgrade the network in more than 70 settlements of the region, providing local residents with modern communication standards.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of MegaFon Khachatur Pombukhchan and Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrey Travnikov. Cooperation will be aimed at modernizing and expanding communication networks, introducing innovative digital solutions for the socio-economic development of the region.

The Governor of the Novosibirsk Region noted that MegaFon is a long-standing and reliable partner of the Novosibirsk Region, and this agreement is another important step in relations between the region and the company. The parties intend to continue cooperation on the further development of digital infrastructure.

The key area of cooperation will be the development of digital infrastructure and the expansion of the LTE coverage area in the Novosibirsk Region. By the end of 2022, MegaFon will modernize communication networks in 77 settlements of the region, build new base stations and launch high-speed Internet in 19 small and remote villages of the region, where about 20 thousand people live.

“Novosibirsk Region has always been one of the key regions for MegaFon. It was here that in 2012 we launched the 4G network for the first time in Russia, and 10 years later, in Novosibirsk, for the first time beyond the Urals, we tested 5G technology and prepared the network for the new standard. I am confident that effective cooperation with the regional government will help us implement new projects that increase the availability of telecom services for residents of the region, as well as open up great opportunities for the digitalization of business and state enterprises,” said Khachatur Pombukhchan, CEO of MegaFon.

As part of the agreement, MegaFon will create a communications infrastructure for the ice arena under construction on the left bank of the Ob. High-capacity LTE base stations will provide coverage in the sports complex and in the surrounding area. MegaFon will install 300 indoor antennas inside the facility: not only in the arena, but also in office and training facilities. The capacity of the installed equipment is enough to simultaneously provide more than 10,000 viewers with high-speed Internet and modern voice communication technologies. MegaFon will act as an “anchor” operator at the facility and implement a special technical solution that will allow other telecom companies to connect their equipment to the system.

The plan of measures for the digitalization of the Novosibirsk Region includes the construction of a communications infrastructure at another large sports facility – the Lokomotiv Arena volleyball center, which can accommodate 5,000 spectators. In addition, MegaFon will provide the key transport air hub of Siberia, the new international terminal of Tolmachevo airport, with modern digital technologies.
