2,371 participants made it to the second stage of the joint profile “Artificial Intelligence” of the Academy of Artificial Intelligence for schoolchildren of the Sberbank Charitable Foundation “Contribution to the Future” and the National Technology Olympiad. They did the best in the mathematics and computer science qualifiers. Representatives of Sberbank informed CNews about it.
In the second stage, participants solve two machine learning problems. Individual tasks include segmentation of handwritten text in photographs of school notebooks. Participants of the Olympiad work with photographs of lined notebook sheets with handwritten text, develop an algorithm that can determine whether a pixel in an image belongs to the text or not. The second task is for teams. They will continue to work with photographs of school exercise books, but they will have to teach the algorithm to recognize handwritten text.
“It’s nice to see how enthusiastically the guys take on the solution of not the most simple, but very important tasks. Most of the participants in the future will become specialists who will develop the domestic IT sector. I would like to wish those who have already passed the qualifying stage good luck, perseverance and remain as ambitious – it will come in handy not only during this Olympiad, but throughout their professional career, ”said Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank.

They will help relieve some of the burden on teachers associated with checking routine tasks for practicing skills and memorizing rules. They will allow you to personalize the educational process and will make it possible to conduct in-depth analysis of the progress of an individual student, group, class, parallel, or even the entire school, ”noted Peter Polozhevets, Executive Director of the Sberbank Charitable Foundation “Contribution to the Future”.
Total for participation in the Olympics in 2021–2022. registered 7109 pupils of 7-11 grades from 80 regions of Russia and 13 foreign countries: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia, Germany, Moldova, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Serbia, India, Vietnam. The total number of participants is 40% more than in 2020, with a third of them girls.

Winners and awardees of the “Artificial Intelligence” profile will be able to take advantage of their admission to the country’s leading universities. Recently, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov and St. Petersburg State University. So, in the admission rules for 2022, it is recorded that applicants who have shown high results in the Olympics will receive 100 points each in a specialized subject upon admission to a number of high-tech specialties.
The finalists for the AI Olympiad will be determined in January 2022, and the final will be held in the spring of 2022.
The “Artificial Intelligence” profile of the National Technology Olympiad is being held for the third time. The competition is held in partnership with the Sberbank Charitable Foundation “Contribution to the Future” with the expert support of Sber AI. In 2020, this profile became the second most popular among all areas of the Olympiad. To be successful in the Olympiad, students need to understand key algorithms and data structures, master basic machine learning tools, and be able to program in Python.
