The Roselectronics holding of the Rostec State Corporation, as part of the import substitution program, has developed a vacuum circuit breaker for steel-smelting furnaces. The equipment is designed for 40,000 on-off cycles and will replace the currently used units of the American brand Joslyn.

The five-gap vacuum circuit breaker, developed by NPP Kontakt (part of Ruselectronics), commissioned by the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant, is designed to control the electric heating of steel-smelting furnaces.

The equipment has a voltage of 110 kV and is designed for rated currents up to 600 A. A special arc chute and a pole drive were developed for the new circuit breaker, which ensures the simultaneous switching on of five vacuum chambers.

“In the current market conditions, the use of foreign equipment in enterprises with a continuous production cycle has become quite problematic due to problems with the supply of components. The vacuum circuit breaker developed by us has technical characteristics similar to foreign installations, and at the same time it is one third cheaper. To date, the testing of equipment has been completed,” said the executive director of NPP Kontakt. Alexander Yudin.
