LeEco launched sales of the Y1 Pro smartphone, a clone of Apple’s iPhone 13. The mobile phone, having relatively modern characteristics and recognizable appearance, costs less than 4000 rubles.

Almost iPhone for 3990 rubles

LeEco has started selling its ultra-cheap Y1 Pro smartphone with an appearance copied from the iPhone 13. The device appeared on Chinese marketplaces a little less than a month after its announcement.

LeEco showed Y1 Pro at the end of May 2022. Its price was 499 yuan for the minimum configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. On the day of the announcement, it was about 4800 rubles. at the rate of the Central Bank, and on June 24, 2022, due to changes in the rate, Y1 Pro fell in price to 3990 rubles.

LeEco Y1 Pro is currently only available in China.

From afar, the Y1 Pro will be indistinguishable from the iPhone 13

The smartphone is offered in three versions: in addition to the base one, there is a variant of 4/128 GB for 699 yuan (5590 rubles) and 4/256 GB for 899 yuan (7190 rubles). Prices in yuan have not changed since the announcement, but due to the difference in the exchange rate for Russian buyers, when the device appears on international platforms, it can cost significantly less than in May 2022.

Differences from iPhone 13

LeEco almost completely copied the design of the iPhone 13, making only a fraction of changes to it. They concern the shape of the notch in the screen, which in Y1 Pro is much smaller compared to the original, and the location of the main camera sensors. Another important difference is the modern USB-C connector instead of Lightning, which will turn 10 years old in the fall of 2022.

Real iPhone 13

Not to be confused with the iPhone 13 Y1 Pro and the layout of the buttons, which Y1 Pro is the same as most Android smartphones. In terms of the shape of the case and other decorative elements, the Y1 Pro does not differ from the Apple mobile phone. Whether Apple will try to sue LeEco for such blatant imitation and copying of intellectual property is still unknown.

The wonders of saving

LeEco has gone to great lengths to keep the Y1 Pro modern and affordable. First of all, she apparently excluded design costs from the estimate, shifting them to Apple.

She also deprived potential Y1 Pro owners of the opportunity to take high-quality photos by the standards of 2022. The selfie module is based on a 5-megapixel sensor, and the exact same module is installed on the back in addition to the main 8-megapixel sensor.

A smartphone for 4,000 rubles is supposed to have three body colors at once

With the processor in LeEco Y1 Pro, everything is also extremely simple. The developer assembled this smartphone on the base-level T310 chip manufactured by Unisoc.

This is a three-year-old CPU, which, although it is produced in a 12 nm topology, contains only four cores. In addition, only one of them is high-performance – Cortex A75 with a clock frequency of 2 GHz. The remaining three are Cortex A53 at 1.8 GHz.

The idea was a success

The maneuver with a cheap CPU and weak cameras in the case of the Y1 Pro proved to be successful. By saving on these parameters, LeEco was able to significantly reduce the final cost of a smartphone without sacrificing one of the most important and expensive components of any modern smartphone – the screen. The Y1 Pro uses a 6.54-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of HD + or 1560×720 pixels.

The battery in the smartphone is also on the level – 4000 mAh with accelerated charging via USB-C. The list of features includes two SIM slots with support for 4G networks, a microSD tray and Android 11 firmware 2020 with Le OS 9 shell.

Quiet but still a comeback

LeEco is a very famous smartphone brand. Its popularity was brought by an impressive list of successful models with a good combination of price, build quality and features. The company was let down only by its inability to manage the budget – the management preferred to pour millions of dollars into advertising and forgetting about other areas of its business. This led to her downfall.

Import substitution

At the time of the release of Y1 Pro, LeEco was 18 years old – it appeared in China in 2004 under the name LeTV and was associated with digital television and streaming services. Both directions brought significant revenue to the company, but the management wanted to develop it in other areas. This led to the appearance in the company’s catalog first of smart TVs, and then of smartphones and tablet computers.

LeEco was also engaged in the production of electric vehicles – scooters and bicycles. In 2015, the company even threatened to release its own electric car under the Faraday Future brand, but this initiative did not go beyond concepts and a couple of prototypes. In parallel, LeEco developed software and filmed a variety of video content.

The company’s growth continued for 12 years and abruptly turned into a decline in the fourth quarter of 2016. Due to rash investments in advertising, LeEco and an attempt to enter the markets of several countries at the same time (a separate LeRee brand was even invented for Russia) faced large-scale financial difficulties, which in the future only got worse. At the beginning of 2017, the head of the company Jia Yueting (Jia Yueting) spoke openly about the lack of money, after which he began to reduce his business.

In the future, the company began to delay the salaries of employees, which led to numerous layoffs, including in top management. The release of new devices ceased, and the company did not remind of itself until May 2021.

Business

Then LeEco held a large-scale presentation of a mass of devices, but 99% of them never went on sale. As a result, LeEco managed to return to stores only with the Y1 Pro.
