Spotify empieza a eliminar Car View: ¿Por qué?

Spotify Starts Clearing Auto View: Why?

If you are a Spotify user on your phone and you have an audio compatible speakerphone installed in your car, You have probably used Car View more than once, the interface of the Spotify app that is automatically activated when it interprets that you are using it in a vehicle, possibly as a driver. It just shows a very simple selection of information and touch controls, these big ones that make it easier to control while driving and avoid distractions.

Car View seemed to me since I first saw it a great success from Spotify. And yes, we all know the rules that we must not neglect the traffic for a second and not use the cell phone, but we all know that in reality many do it in the same way as the rotary dial on the radio to change the temperature of the heating or air conditioning, etc. And we all know that talking on WhatsApp with your phone in hand is not the same as pressing a giant button on the screen with an arrow pointing to the right.

And that’s why what the company does seems outrageous to me, precisely because this function seems so practical and intelligent to me. And that’s how we can Read the Android Policy, Spotify is removing Car View from its iOS and Android apps. Yes, a feature that enables significantly safer use of the app while driving has reportedly disappeared from many drivers’ apps.

And why is Spotify killing Car View? According to company spokespersons, they are working to find better systems that are more comfortable for users, saying that they must first eliminate Car View to make way for this news. A declaration that after their unfortunate encounter with the iceberg makes more water than the Titanic, frankly, and even more when we consider that these new and sensational systems have not replaced Car View. Or they barely have it, but that’s worse.

Car View is a feature that provides security behind the wheel, something that doesn’t seem trivial, right? So if Spotify wants to replace Car View with something better, it would be logical to have the “something better” ready and in due course swap Car View for “something better” without neglecting the safety of the user when switching between one and another function. Certainly the airbags can be improved, but no one thinks of eliminating them without having this improved alternative on hand.

Do you remember when I said that there is actually almost a replacement for Car View? As, this alternative is called Car thing, currently canned only in the US, it costs $ 79.99 and as you can see in the picture above, it’s a touch-controlled player with a voice assistant that responds to the “Hey Spotify” call. All with an interface that Spotify says is designed to provide quick access to our favorite content.

So … what conclusion can we come to? Would it be ugly to think that Spotify killed Car View without offering an alternative in order to encourage more users to buy a car thing? I think the company will be looking for a way to roll over the capabilities of this device to their smartphone apps as well, but right now the harsh reality is that many drivers are lacking a feature that would allow them to use the service safely , and that the only option (and currently only on sale in advance) is to purchase another device.

And not like that, Spotify, not like that. I understand that companies need to look for new ways to monetize, of course they do, and it seems sensational that they are acting in that regard. Since I now think that all engine manufacturers should incorporate all active and passive safety systems into the basic versions of their vehicles, I think it’s outrageous that Spotify is suddenly putting a price on security (because at the moment it does), all the more if you consider that Car View was a pioneer in the safe use of the smartphone at the wheel.

Maybe instead of trying to copy social networks as they have with the stupidity of stories and, more recently, vertical videos, they focused all their efforts on developing and implementing these safer alternatives before leaving Car Eliminating View, I could imagine: something better about the company. But I’m so sorry, this time Spotify is behaving in a hugely questionable way, and should recognize it and withdraw immediately.
