The historic tram number 42, which belongs to the Prague City Tourism organization (100% owned by the city of Prague) and passes through Prague’s sights (Powder Gate, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and others), has received a modern payment system from the provider Global Payments, which can be used buy using a cell phone and cryptocurrency.
GP Tom supports payments by card, mobile phone or watch. However, if you want to pay with cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum, the system uses the GoCrypto payment gateway, which promises the lowest fees for providers and quick confirmation of even such small payments. The trader himself can decide whether he will receive cryptocurrencies from his Global Payments account (crypto-wallet) or an immediate conversion to a common currency such as the koruna, euro and the like.
The ticket for the mentioned tourist line is valid for 24 hours, so passengers can use it continuously throughout the day. The tram normally runs only on weekends, but from June 23 it will run from Thursday to Sunday to cover greater tourist demand within 40-minute intervals.
Prague has long been one of the innovative cities where payments and other operations using cryptocurrencies can be used in a large number of places. Extending support to the tourist area is certainly another piece of good news for expanding the use of cryptocurrencies for payments. Above all, it turns out that this is nothing complicated and that a regular telephone with an application will serve as a terminal.
