After nearly four years of construction, East China has opened a Taiwan traffic tunnel under the lake of the same name, connecting Changzhou City Prefecture and Wuxi City. With a length of 10.8 kilometers, it is the longest such building in China. According to the CNN website, it cost 9.9 billion yuan, more than 34 billion crowns.
The builders used over two million cubic meters of concrete for the 17.45 meter wide two-way tunnel, which has six lanes. Colorful ceiling lighting with the use of LED lights is intended to prevent driver fatigue.
The newly opened tunnel (contrary to Chinese customs) does not seek to break global records. It is the largest in China, but the longest globally similar tunnel is in Norway. It is called Ryfylke, it measures a record 14.4 kilometers and motorists started driving it at the end of 2019.
